The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau has announced that it will abandon “reeducation through labor” as a method to rehabilitate drug addicts.
Under the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Narcotics Control implemented on June 1 of this year, the adoption of community drug rehab treatment, medical treatment, and being subject to isolated compulsory drug rehab to treat substance abuse among drug addicts in effect is prohibited in reeducation through labor.
