The Case of Intentional Homicide by Xia Junfeng

Before Xia Junfeng committed a crime, he manned a street vendor’s stall in Shenyang together with his wife. On May 16 2009, Xia and his wife were suspected of illegally selling barbecued foodstuffs, and city management officials subsequently confiscated their barbecue equipment. Afterwards Xia accompanied the city management officials to their workplace where he was penalized. Soon after, a dispute broke out between Xia Junfeng and city management officials, whereupon Xia Junfeng, using a gutting knife he carried on his person, attacked and killed two of the city management officials and seriously injured a third.

On November 15 2010, Shenyang Municipal Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Xia Junfeng to the death penalty for the crime of intentional homicide. On May 9 2011, the People’s Court of the Second Instance upheld Xia’s death penalty sentence.
