China's electric kitchenware and home appliances' sales spiked, small items demand up many folds amid coronavirus outbreak.

Apr 23, 2020 (China Knowledge) - The February's compulsory homestay quarantine in China has churned out millions of amateur chefs and force conscripted homemakers. This resulted a spike in demand for small items of home appliances and kitchenware – products deliverable by single-manned motorbike. Due to affected parts of the supply chain's logistic the traditional home appliance manufacturers were hard hit. Refrigerators, large screen TV, air-conditioners, and large-size items were not able to move (sell) during the quarantine period.

The Q1 sales volume, including home appliance giants like Gree (000651), Hisense (000921), Haier Smart Home (600690), Chunlan (600854), and Konka (000016) plunged. However, small home appliances have seen sales soared.

According to Alibaba's Tmall the Q1 sales of massage equipment, cooker, sandwich machine, and mop-steamer increased by many folds. From Jan to Feb, Midea Group's (000333) sales were up 17% YoY; Joyoung (002242) increased by 32% YoY with its popular soybean drink maker. Bear Electric Appliance (002959) rose 17% YoY due to soaring sales of its electric lunch boxes.
