Guangzhou Youths Demand That Hu Jintao Discloses Personal Assets, 6 Detained

On April 31, several youths displayed a banner in the central downtown area of

Guangzhou City Tianhe District, demanding that Hu Jintao, President of the PRC and

General Secretary of the CCP, takes the lead to disclose his personal assets and to procure

political reform.

According to reports, Ou Ronggui, Yang Chong, Huang Wenxun, Luo Shouheng and Liu

Shanjuan were detained. With respect to Ou Ronggui, the Tianhe District Branch of the

Guangzhou Public Security Bureau first administratively detained him for ten days for

the reason of “suspected of spreading rumors and disturbing the social order”. Then, on

April 4, the authority criminally detained him for the reason of “suspected of illegally

assembling, marching and holding demonstrations” to justify criminal detention.

Eyewitness Xiao Yong posted relevant pictures on Tencent Weibo, and as a result, was

also detained on April 3. Xiao Yong and Ou Ronggui’s family members hired defence

lawyers for the youths, but were subject to heavy pressure to dismiss the lawyers.

According to reports, Xiao Yong’s family members have already dismissed the lawyer.
