Lawyer Cai Ying’s Plea for Help (Excerpts)

In these last moments of my life, I am writing to you to plea for help.

On July 30 of this year, the Yiyang City People’s Procuratorate ordered me to come to Yiyang from Changsha to cooperate with the working of a case. Right after arriving in Yiyang, I was taken by the Yuanjiang City People’s Procuratorate and shut up in a room for investigation; I was demanded that I sit on an extremely tall chair to be put on trial.

The first trial lasted for three days and three nights, and they forced me to confess the fact that I had bribed someone, saying that they “already had definite proof.” Every day groups of “interrogators” took turns carrying on the torture and interrogation. First they implemented extreme character defamation against me, followed by threats and intimidation. The interrogators said, “The law will not come here; this is a place outside the law of the land.”

I made it through three days of trial, then it switched to period of “case opening” Per my own request, it was announced that I would live under surveillance in designated residence. I was detained in the CCP’s Yuanjiang Discipline Inspection Commission’s place specified for “Shuanggui”(extralegal detention by the CCP) , and not allowed to take even half a step outside the gates.

In the morning of the sixth day, three people took me and held me in the interrogation room. A lock had been added to the middle of the chair, and when I sat down, I sat on a spike. My legs could not reach the ground. In less than ten minutes, I was unable to sit upright. The interrogators said, “We are still being polite.” Through the five-day, five-night, 120 hour trial, my two legs could not stretch out to the floor, and I fell to the ground.
