Lawyer Loses in the First Lawsuit for Physical Assault against Lawyer

Last September, lawyers including, Dong Qianyong, went to the Tianjin Railway Transport Court to audit female lawyer Wang Yu’s suspected intentional assault case. When defense lawyer Zhang Kai was requested by the court to undergo a security check, Dong pointed out that a security check on a defense lawyer violates a rule issued by the Supreme People’s Court. The Court Vice-President Wang Ping then ordered the bailiff to beat Dong up. Three police officers from Ninyuan Street Police Station, responsible for public order in the court, acquiesced the violence and dispersed the angry mass.

Subsequently, Dong sued the police officers from Ningyuan Street Police Station for their inaction in Tianjin, Hebei District Court. On October 24, 2011, the First Intermediate People’s Court of Tianjin ruled that Dong Qianyong lost his appeal. It is reported that...
