Lay Judges May Be Popularized

Judges should have specialized training, but they must also be accessible to the public. It is beyond reproach to have circuit trial because of restriction of transportation in some areas. Still, judges must be judges, and should live up to a professional rather than lay standard.

Dispelling the cloud of mystery shrouding the bench does not mean we should have judges enter the fields or wear grass sandals s; that can be accomplished by greater media scrutiny of the judicial process and more open access to information.
