Judges’ Case Referral Fees Rise Sharply in Shenzhen, and Sichuan Judge Earned 6 Million RMB by Directing and Manipulating Cases

He Bing, the Associate Dean of the Law School of the China University of Political Science and Law, revealed on his microblog that a lawyer has told him that he usually rejects cases referred to him by judges. This is because judges normally require a referral fee of 50% of the lawyer’s income, such that after tax payments, the lawyer would not be able to earn anything. Whereas last year, another lawyer in Shenzhen revealed that judges typically require 20% of a lawyer’s income as referral fee.
