China’s Rule of Law Have Declined in The Last Ten Years

China’s rules of law have declined in the recent ten years. There are two indications of decline. First, the status of judge and judiciary has declined. Second, lawyers’ position has completely submerged. Many people treat lawyers as outsiders and perceive them as the power or the force of instability. There may be an understandable reason for the Supreme People’s Court to treat lawyers this way, but there is no doubt that this practice departs from the right direction.

I have many friends and students who work in the courts. Morale of the entire judge’s community is low. They feel anxiety but do not know what to do. Somebody told me that their method of rendering judgment first by guessing what kind of influence the case would bring, what the superior has said; which were the cases that would be asked by the People’s Congress or by the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; which were the cases that involved the wealthy and powerful people and which were the cases that the parties would desperately petition etc. They first tried to find out the answers to these...
