The Li Zhuang Case Ignited Arguments about Lawyers’Professional Ethics in China

Li Zhuang was a partner at Kangda Law Firm in Beijing and was reported by his client, Gong Gangmo, in 2009. In the first instance, in 2010, Li Zhuang was sentenced to jail for two years and six months by the Court for falsifying evidence and obstructing testimony; Li cried for justice. At the second instance, Li Zhuang pleaded guilty in exchange for stay of execution. As the trial left a sentence of one year and six months imprisonment, Li Zhang claimed that the Chongqing side broke its promise so that his confession was a lie.
